Every MacBook model: can it run Valorant?
| MacBook model | Chip | Can play Valorant? | Method |
|---|---|---|---|
| MacBook Neo (2026) | A18 Pro | No | No method works. Apple Silicon, no Boot Camp, Vanguard blocks all virtualization. |
| MacBook Air M4 (2026) | Apple M4 | No | Same as all Apple Silicon Macs. No working method exists. |
| MacBook Air M3 (2024) | Apple M3 | No | No working method exists. |
| MacBook Air M2 (2022-23) | Apple M2 | No | No working method exists. |
| MacBook Air M1 (2020) | Apple M1 | No | First Apple Silicon MacBook. No Boot Camp, no Vanguard support. |
| MacBook Air (2020, Intel) | Intel Core i3/i5/i7 | Yes | Boot Camp with Windows 10. Last Intel MacBook Air. Performance is limited. |
| MacBook Pro M4 (2024-25) | Apple M4 / M4 Pro / M4 Max | No | No working method exists despite the more powerful chip. |
| MacBook Pro M3 (2023) | Apple M3 / M3 Pro / M3 Max | No | No working method exists. |
| MacBook Pro M1/M2 (2021-23) | Apple M1/M2 | No | No working method exists. |
| MacBook Pro Intel (2019 and earlier) | Intel Core i5/i7/i9 | Yes | Boot Camp with Windows 10. Models with dedicated GPU will perform better. |
| MacBook Pro 13-inch Intel (2020) | Intel Core i5/i7 | Yes | Boot Camp with Windows 10. Last 13-inch Intel MacBook Pro. |
Why Valorant does not work on Apple Silicon
Valorant uses an anti-cheat system called Vanguard. It runs at kernel level, meaning it operates at the deepest layer of the operating system with full access to hardware and memory. This is how it detects cheats — it can see everything running on your machine.
The problem for Mac users is twofold. First, macOS does not allow third-party software to install kernel extensions with that level of access. Second, Vanguard specifically detects and blocks virtual machines and compatibility layers. So even if you run Windows inside Parallels on an M1 Mac, Vanguard sees the virtualized environment and refuses to launch.
Boot Camp on Intel Macs works because it installs Windows natively on a separate partition. When you boot into it, your Mac is running Windows directly on the hardware, not inside an emulator. Vanguard gets the kernel access it needs and everything works. Apple Silicon Macs removed Boot Camp entirely, and there is no replacement that satisfies Vanguard’s requirements.
Riot has never publicly committed to a Mac version of Valorant and as of 2026 there is still no movement on it. The Vanguard problem is not a technical obstacle they are quietly solving, it is a deliberate architectural choice that would require significant reworking to change. If you are buying a Mac specifically to play Valorant, that is the wrong purchase.
How to play Valorant on an Intel Mac using Boot Camp
If you have an Intel Mac from 2020 or earlier, this is the only method that works. It takes about 45 minutes to set up. You need at least 150GB of free storage, 100GB for Windows and its updates, 28GB for Valorant, plus headroom to actually use the partition.
Use Windows 10, not Windows 11. Valorant has reported stability issues on Windows 11 when installed via Boot Camp. The Windows 10 ISO is still available free from Microsoft’s website. This is not optional advice, it affects whether the game actually runs.
Step by Step Guide
Applications → Utilities → Boot Camp Assistant. It walks you through the process. When asked for the ISO, point it to the Windows 10 file you downloaded. To switch between macOS and Windows, hold the Option key at startup and choose which partition to boot into. Nothing is lost, both operating systems stay completely separate.
Methods that do not work and why
Can You Play Valorant on the MacBook Neo?
The MacBook Neo (2026) cannot run Valorant. Full stop.
The reason is the chip. The MacBook Neo runs on the A18 Pro, which is Apple Silicon. Apple Silicon Macs do not have Boot Camp, which is the only method that actually works for running Valorant on a Mac. Every other workaround like Parallels, CrossOver, and Wine gets blocked by Vanguard, Valorant’s anti-cheat, which detects virtualized environments and refuses to launch.
It does not matter how powerful the A18 Pro is. Vanguard does not care about performance. It cares about kernel-level access to native Windows hardware, which no Apple Silicon Mac can provide.
If someone is trying to sell you a MacBook Neo for gaming with the promise that Valorant works on it, that is false. Do not buy any Mac primarily for Valorant. If Valorant is your main game, buy a Windows laptop.
Games similar to Valorant that do run on Mac
If you are on an Apple Silicon Mac and want a tactical shooter, these work natively on macOS:
Counter-Strike 2: Available natively on macOS. Free to play, similar tactical gameplay, large player base. Runs well on Apple Silicon Macs including the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro M-series.
Apex Legends: Also available via GeForce Now cloud streaming for Mac users. Faster-paced than Valorant but shares the team-based FPS structure.
Overwatch 2: Native macOS client available. Hero-based shooter with a similar competitive ladder system to Valorant. Free to play.
None of these are perfect replacements for Valorant if you specifically want Valorant’s gameplay. But they are what actually runs on a Mac in 2026 without workarounds.
Last verified April 2026. Riot Games has not announced Mac support for Valorant. This article will be updated if that changes.
